But all is well! Ronnie Hufnagel the owner and breeder of the two Friesian stallions, Paul and Patrick, paid us a visit this past week. She was very impressed with how they were coming along and we are both very excited for the future. The boys will go to a show or two this summer, they are really coming along.

The weekend was also Equine Affair here in Columbus. It is a collection of all that is horses, from clinics and breed demonstrations to the latest in equine products. Old Oak Farm and owner Denise Phillips was happy to have a her AWS Stallion, Norman, Participating in one of the clinics. Norman was ridden by Abigail Postale in a clinic with grand prix competitor Angela Moore. Abby really showed her skills and was extremely professional, we are very happy for her to represent Old Oak Farm.

We are gearing up for our first outing of the spring. Although the plan was to head to Maryland and compete at Fairhill Horse Trials, we decided to stay local and head up to Cleveland for the Annual Jumper Prix Devilles at Lake Erie College. Black will be competing in the individual day on Saturday.

Keep checking back for pictures of the Friesians and Jumper Prix Devilles!

Almost Spring!

The past few days we have felt the weather in central Ohio starting to warm up. Its finally getting to the point where the horses can enjoy being ridden out of the indoor, and just like us when we are couped up inside for to long they go a bit stur crazy.

Right now we r gearing up for an upcoming dressage and show jumping competition, located up North in Cleveland. The annual Dressage and Jumper Prix Devilles at Lake Erie College held every year in April. April is looking to be a busy month, with us hopefully traveling to Fairhill as well as making the yearly pilgrimage to Kentucky for Rolex.

I am excited for Lake Erie, mostly because Chick will be making her debut at second level. I really feel as if she is ready to head out to her first show. I have taken her schooling at a few places and she settles right in and never looks around. It is hopefully going to be an exciting weekend.

Friesians Day One

Today was the second day for our newest arrivals. I have to say that they are quite the handful. Both only being 4 years old they are staring to come into themselves, discovering hormones that they did not have a month or two ago.

I am, however, happy to say that they are going to come right along. Today was filled with a lot of ground work. Paul who is only the smaller of the two was a bit of a hand full going past the other horses, but Patrick was a complete gentlemen. We started learning how to lounge and both picked up on having to go forward on a circle rather quickly. I used to break horses to drive so I always start my horses with a surcingle so they get the idea of having a saddle on. The surcingle allows for the horses to act badly and not break anything. That being said, all was well and so far there are no bad manners. You have to love a clean slate. I predict that I will be on their backs by the end of the week if not Monday.

Welcome Friesians

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5302744040276529842" style="FLOAT: right; I have decided that it is time to start putting down into words everything that happenes at Bryner Eventing, and Old Oak Sport Horses. We have several new updates for those of you who either ride, train, or have horses in training with me. January 1st was promising to be the start to a new year and several new events have made it just that.

Old Oak Sport Horses does its part in finding homes for Thoroughbed horses that need new homes. They are selected based on type and temperment and will go through a period of "detox" before they start back into work. We have acquired two horses; Hugo and Rusty. Both are looking to have promising jumping careers based on that old wise tail of a predominant hunter bump. Unfortunatly both need quite a bit of rehabilitation before beginning back into work. Hugo was still in training and ran a race the day before we picked him up. Rusty on the other hand was in a bad spot, being dumped on a trainer who could not do anything with him. Unfortunatly the person who dumped him was not a person of ethics and Rusty has suffered some malnutrtion for some time. Both are eating and gaining wieght and with in a few more weeks will start under saddle in formal training under the expertise of Denise Phillips.

In addition, I am welcoming two approved Friesian Stallions, who will be staying at Old Oak until their Keuring in September.
